Research
Research at the Heidelberg Institute of Earth Sciences focuses on the fields of solid earth (including mineralogy, petrology, isotope geology and sedimentology), cosmochemistry, environmental geochemistry, palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimate research, palaeontology and archaeometry.
The focus here is on the approach of analysing processes both qualitatively and quantitatively using state-of-the-art analytics. The high level of analytical expertise in geoscientific research in Heidelberg is documented not least by the commissioning of the national laboratory for secondary ion mass spectrometry in 2014.
