Dr. Daniela Müller

Research profile:

The overarching goal of my research is to contribute to a better understanding of short-term environmental change during the late Pleistocene and Holocene. To this end, I analyze both terrestrial and marine sedimentary archives with a broad variety of sedimentological and geochemical techniques; tephrochronological methods are used for dating and synchronization.
An important aspect of my research is deciphering early human-climate interactions, with a focus on the eastern Mediterranean region. Whereas the rise of East Mediterranean civilizations is relatively well documented through the archeological record, the influence of climatic and environmental change on their evolution, and their environmental impact on terrestrial and marine ecosystems, have remained relatively poorly constrained.
